Innovating in Healthcare

The Heartbeat Tech™ team is an interdisciplinary, diverse, and experienced team of surgeons, medical students, engineers, and designers who are collaborating to improve medical outcomes. Leveraging their first-hand experiences in the medical field as well as their Human-Centered Design training, the team is uniquely positioned to make lasting impacts on healthcare outcomes. The team functions at the intersection between healthcare and design and strives to create innovative solutions, one unmet need at a time.

    Dr. Kristen Quinn, MD

    CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER | CO-FOUNDER

    Dr. Quinn is a surgical oncology fellow at MD Anderson and is a natural leader. She has a passion for research, innovation, and entrepreneurship and feels a deep responsibility to her patients to rapidly translate medical solutions into clinical care.

    Joshua Kim, MS

    CHIEF DESIGN OFFICER | CO-FOUNDER

    Joshua is a human-centered designer and medical scientist committed to innovating at the intersection of design and healthcare. As a medical innovation educator, Joshua has mentored, started, and led over 15 medical device start-ups and has taught human-centered design at MUSC to over 300 students, residents, and physicians.

    Dr. Maren Downing, DO, MEng

    CHIEF TECHNOLOGY OFFICER

    Maren has a biomedical engineering background and a passion for the development and commercialization of medical devices, with experience in diagnostics and neurotechnologies. She seeks to combine her problem-solving mindset with clinical knowledge to improve patient outcomes.

    CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER

    Alan is a seasoned C-suite executive with a track record of transformational growth in capital-intensive, operationally complex industries. Over the past decade, he has led major organizational restructures and turnarounds across global corporations, and aims to apply his expertise to scaling Heartbeat Tech™.

  • Abby Morgan, MS

    PROJECT MANAGER

    Abby bridges the arts and medicine with a background in fine arts and a Masters in Medical Science from MUSC. Her experience with patient care, fine arts, and design methodologies allow her to refine Heartbeat Tech™’s user experience.

    ADVISOR

    Craig is an experienced healthcare executive who has authored over 7 patents in healthcare IT. He has served as CEO for several hospitals and has experience with legislature and Fortune 500 companies. His entrepreneurial experiences and success will guide Heartbeat Tech™ to new heights.
